About Us
The National Association for Loss
& Grief (NSW) Inc Incorporated was founded in 1977 after the Granville train
disaster. In 2007, we commemorated the 30th Anniversary of the foundation of
the National Association for Loss & Grief (NSW) Inc.
The Granville
train disaster on 18th January 1977 changed the focus on trauma,
loss and grief to NSW. To download a

Since its formation NALAG (NSW)
Inc’s primary objective has been to encourage and promote professional and
community education in loss, grief, bereavement and trauma. NALAG (NSW) Inc has
been involved in the establishment of many of the loss and grief support groups
throughout Australia. NALAG is frequently called upon for training and advice by
schools, corporations, government departments, media and individuals.

NALAG (NSW) Inc. is an
independent, not for profit organisation. Registered as a public benevolent
institution NALAG (NSW) Inc. is funded by the NSW Mental Health, Drug and
Alcohol. NALAG (NSW) Inc. is governed by a Board of Management. Details of the Board of

Biography
Julie has been working as
a psychologist in the area of loss grief and trauma for over 28 years.
She is the Director of Health Promotion LNS in Northern Sydney Central
Coast Health with a focus on emotional social health of communities.
Over the past four years Julie has been the Bali Trauma Recovery
Coordinator primarily working with NSW Bali Bombing victims, survivors,
bereaved and those who had been part of the rescue efforts; survivors
from the Tsunami and other major trauma events.
Julie has travelled
extensively lecturing and running workshops on trauma, grief and loss
with a focus on sudden unexpected traumatic loss and children and
adolescent grief.
She ran some of the first
workshops in Australia that addressed the grief associated with
separation and divorce. Julie was instrumental in the development &
facilitation of “Good Grief” weekends for bereaved adolescents. Julie is
a founding member of CanTeen (Australian Teenage Cancer Patients'
Society Inc.) She is a co-founder of SANDS (NSW) (Stillbirth and
Neonatal Death Support Group).
Julie is a regular on ABC
radio and has made a number of TV documentaries on loss, grief &
trauma.

Biography
Geoffrey Glassock is a
Counselling Psychologist with initial training in Marriage and Family
Counselling before becoming involved with issues of loss and grief
following the Granville train disaster in 1977. In that year the
National Association for Loss and Grief was established and Geoffrey has
been involved with the Association since its inception. He is a life
member. He is one of a small group in Australia who pioneered education
and training in loss and grief. This has involved him in consultancy
work and training with schools, hospitals universities, non-government
agencies and the community at large. He is known internationally for his
work and has contributed to many national and international conferences.
In the late 80s Geoffrey was the first Australian to be invited to
membership of the International Work Group on Death, Dying and
Bereavement. He has held senior academic appointments in education and
nursing at the University of Sydney and worked in hospice/palliative
care in Australia, South Africa and the UK. As both a priest and
psychologist he has pursued an interest in spirituality, firmly
believing all people have a spiritual dimension. As a clinical
supervisor he is aware of the need for self-care for practitioners in
the field. He stresses the importance of knowing and ensuring that
counsellors maintain appropriate boundaries which are underpinned by
sound ethical standards. His current research interest is in the grief
of families who have a missing person.

Biography
Trudy is the Manager of the
NALAG Centre for Loss & Grief in Dubbo, New South Wales.
She is a Grief Counsellor and Educator who has worked in the
field of grief and bereavement for over 20 years.
Trudy has trained many
professionals and volunteers in grief theory,
intervention and counselling skills all over NSW and has
presented at the International Conference for Grief and
Bereavement in London in 2005.
She has a strong interest in
Indigenous loss and grief, child and adolescent grief,
traumatic and complex bereavement.

Biography
Liz completed a Graduate
Certificate in Health Studies in the field of Loss &
Grief at Queensland University. She is the Vice
President of Central Coast Suicide Safety Network and
her main interest lies with those bereaved by suicide.
She has completed various courses such as ASSIST and
Mental Health First Aid. Liz is currently facilitating
Lifeline Bereaved by Suicide Workshops.
Liz is the Vice President of
SOLACE (NSW) and assists in facilitating a bi-monthly
educative support group for those whose partner has
died. Group meeting are conducted in and around the
Sydney area, including the Central Coast.

Biography
Caroline has been on the
Board of NALAG since 2007. She is the Program
Coordinator at Good Grief Ltd. where she focuses on
research, training and program development with a
view to supporting resilience in children and adults
who have experienced significant change or loss.
She believes in the use of education and peer
support as early intervention to provide the tools
for people to better understand and process life’s
changes and transitions. Caroline holds a Graduate
Diploma in Psychology from Macquarie University
(NSW), and in 2010 will begin an Honours project
exploring the use of social networking sites and
online bereavement groups in grief. In 2008 she
undertook a research internship at Utrecht
University (Netherlands) exploring how writing may
mediate a person’s grief experience. Caroline
volunteers as a support worker at the National
Centre for Childhood Grief and as a camp buddy at
Camp Quality. For fun, she loves yoga, cycling,
camping, reading and seeing live music.

Biography
Beate` Steller brings 30
years of experience in a variety of sectors to her role
as a Training Consultant and a Pastoral Care Team
Leader. Beate` has been an adult
educator for the last 17 years which included being a
Training and Development Co-ordinator at the Centre for
Community Welfare Training and Lifeline’s (Sutherland)
Telephone Counselling Trainer and Telephone Counsellor.
Her experience includes working as a Strategic Planner
and a Community Development Officer at Sutherland
Council, working with long term unemployed and
especially with people from Indigenous and CALD
Backgrounds. Beate’s experience in the Health Services’
Industry includes specialising in HIV AIDS, palliative
care and aged care.
Her work
has focused on working with organisations and
individuals in the development of their goals, helping
them to resolve conflicts and developing a participatory
approach in their work. In the last 8 years Beate has
specialised in grief and loss education and transition
counselling.
She
has both graduate and post graduate qualifications in
Adult Education, Social Work and Nursing. She holds a
Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training.
