  • is your client grieving a loss?

    Our dedicated team—made up of trained staff and volunteers—is here to support people navigating grief, loss, trauma, or significant life changes. This includes, but is not limited to:

    - Death of a loved one (family member, partner, friend, pet)
    - Divorce or separation
    -  Loss of a friendship or close relationship
    - Miscarriage or stillbirth
    - Loss of health (chronic illness, disability, terminal diagnosis)
    - Loss of independence or mobility
    - Loss of employment or financial stability
    - Retirement, especially when identity is tied to career
    - Loss of home (due to disaster, eviction, relocation)
    - Loss of safety or trust, particularly after trauma or abuse
    - Loss of a dream or future plan
    - Loss of identity, often linked with major life transitions
    - Loss due to addiction—either your own or watching a loved one struggle
    - Loss tied to aging, such as cognitive decline or changing roles in family and society

  • Are you experiencing a complex mental health issue?

    NALAG may not be suitable for individuals experiencing complex mental health issues, such as:

    - Prolonged Grief Disorder (PGD) or Complex Grief Disorder
    - Complex PTSD
    - Bipolar Disorder
    - Borderline Personality Disorder
    - Schizophrenia
    - Active suicidal thoughts or behaviours
    - Substance dependence
    - History of psychosis
    - Recent admission to a mental health inpatient unit (within the last 12 months)

When you Refer a Client with NALAG Grief Support your client will receive a call from one of our Grief Support Coordinators. During the initial call they can gather all the necessary information to enable us to connect your client with the appropriate Grief Support Volunteer.

Please inform your client that they should allow 30 minutes for this information session with our Grief Support Coordinator. Please note that whilst Our Grief Support Coordinators are trained in loss and grief support, they will not be your clients Grief Support Volunteer. They will however take all the necessary information to be able to connect your client with one of our trained Grief Support Volunteers that they think will be a great match.

NALAG's FREE National Grief Support service is available by:

Telephone Support with a dedicated Grief Support Volunteer for the duration of your support.

Face-to-Face*

Face-to-face Grief Support is available -  at the NALAG Centre in Dubbo and Mudgee and by arrangement in the Hunter areas - for adults + children.

Online

National FREE Online Grief Support is available to children and adults by our trained Grief Support Volunteers

Early Response

The NALAG Early Response (ER) Team is dedicated to providing immediate support to individuals affected by sudden and unexpected incidents involving injury or death. Our trained volunteers and counsellors are here to help you navigate through the initial shock and trauma. 

Locations

NALAG Grief Support has branches in Dubbo, Mudgee, Hunter and Sydney regions. NALAG Head Office is located at 7 Welchman Street, Dubbo NSW 2830.

Cost

NALAG Grief Support is a not for profit organization funded by Western Area Health. NALAG Grief Support provides loss and grief support to all people regardless of race, religion and financial circumstances and provides Grief Support FREE of charge.

Hours

NALAG Grief Support may not be available around the clock. However, we understand the importance of being accessible when you need us most. Here are our current operating hours:

Dubbo Centre for Loss & Grief:

  • Monday to Friday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Excluding Public Holidays)
  • Appointments for other times may be negotiated.

Mudgee Centre for Loss & Grief:

  • Monday to Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM (Excluding Public Holidays)

While we strive to respond to inquiries as swiftly as possible within our operating hours, please feel free to reach out to us through our online contact form outside of these times. We will get back to you as soon as we can during our next business hours.

Due to the individual nature of the support person and client arrangement, times may be negotiated outside of office hours for online and telephone support. This can be discussed with your when you enquire for support.
