Why the Dry Run?
The Dry Run is built on a simple but powerful truth: in rural communities, strong social ties are one of the most effective defences against the weight of adversity. Connection helps people feel less alone, draws on the knowledge already held in lived experience, while boosting coping capacity and supporting faster recovery when hardship hits.
Social
The aim of the Dry Run events create space for conversations that matter — where stories are shared, practical strategies are exchanged, and people are reminded that no one has to face the tough times, like drought alone.
Connection
When we increase connectedness, practical outcomes naturally emerge. The Dry Run and partnering with local community groups and on-ground services to ensure that conversations are supported to increased awareness of available services and supports.
Prepared
This ensures that barriers to help-seeking are gently broken down, and communities learn from one another how to prepare mentally, physically, financially and socially for what lies ahead.
