Letters to the Lonely

Letters to the Lonely

We welcome people from all walks of life across Australia to contribute personal reflections or anonymous messages about their experiences with grief. Whether it's a story, a note of encouragement, or a quiet moment captured in words, your contribution can offer comfort to those feeling isolated in their loss. These letters may be shared online to foster connection, understanding, and hope.

Grief isolates—but messages connect. This month, during Grief Awareness Month, we honour the quiet wish so many carry: to say one more thing to someone who's no longer here. Through words, we find release. Through sharing, we remind each other—we are Lonely, But Not Alone.

Have you ever found yourself wishing for just one more chat with someone you've lost? A moment to ask that question, to share a memory, or to simply say “I miss you”? While we may not truly connect with those who’ve passed, expressing what's in our hearts can bring a small but meaningful shift in our grief. Leaving a message is not about answers—it’s about healing.

What We're Inviting

Leave your message. Ask that question you never got to ask. Share the memory you wish they'd heard. Say the thing your heart still holds.

Even if we can’t reach those we’ve lost, leaving a message can shift something in the soul—a little more light, a little less weight.

The Wall of Grief

Your message (if you agree) will be gently and anonymously displayed on our public online Wall of Grief—throughout Grief Awareness Month.

Select messages may also be shared anonymously across social media and future wellbeing initiatives supporting those facing loss and isolation.

Leave Your Message

There's something deeply human about the longing for one more conversation—a final word, a lingering question, or even just a gentle goodbye. Grief often holds that quiet ache, and creating space to leave a message—even if only written or whispered—can be a powerful release.
