Become a NALAG Grief Support Volunteer
Our organisation is seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals to join us as Grief Support Volunteers. Volunteers are at the heart of NALAG — without their valued contribution, we simply could not operate as effectively or reach as many people in need. We are always looking for generous community‑minded people to assist with the running of our organisation, programs, and events.
As a NALAG volunteer, you can be involved in a wide range of meaningful activities. Our staff and volunteers work together to promote, deliver, and maintain the essential grief support services NALAG provides across New South Wales. Whether you’re helping at events, supporting our centres, assisting with community outreach, or contributing behind the scenes, your time and skills make a real difference.
Volunteering with NALAG is a rewarding way to give back, build new skills, and support individuals, families, and communities experiencing grief and loss. We welcome people from all backgrounds who are willing to offer their time, empathy, and commitment.

Be the Difference. Volunteer with NALAG.
A support network for people experiencing loss and grief.
Volunteering is a meaningful way to give back to your community while gaining new skills and experiences. At NALAG, our volunteers are valued members of our team, and we are committed to supporting their growth. All volunteers have access to our training and education sessions, and we provide ongoing supervision and development for our Grief Support Volunteers. We also host regular social outings, awareness sessions, and opportunities for volunteers to connect, collaborate, and help plan special events such as Grief Awareness Month.
As a NALAG volunteer, you can give as much or as little time as you are able. For Grief Support Volunteers, sessions typically run for 1 hour with adults and around 30 minutes with children. Depending on the needs of your client, you may volunteer as little as 1 hour per fortnight.
NALAG Grief Support Volunteers are trained to offer a compassionate listening ear to those who are grieving. While you will not provide counselling, your understanding, presence, and support offer great comfort to individuals navigating loss. To become a Grief Support Volunteer, you will need to complete our Basic Loss & Grief Support Training Program, held at various times throughout the year across NALAG branches. This experiential training invites you to reflect on your own experiences of loss and learn how to support others in their grief.
Grief Support Volunteers also have opportunities for further development, including the option to train as a Palliative Care Volunteer.
