Tiny Lives, Lasting Love:
Understanding Pregnancy & Infant Loss
The death of a baby during pregnancy, at birth or in infancy can bring profound and lasting grief. Yet pregnancy and infant loss is still too often misunderstood, minimised or carried in silence.
This compassionate workshop will explore the many experiences that can sit within pregnancy and infant loss, including miscarriage, stillbirth and neonatal death. We will consider why these losses can feel invisible to others, the grief of hopes and futures imagined, and the different ways parents, partners and family members may experience and express their grief.
The workshop will also explore how we can better support bereaved parents and families — not only immediately following a loss, but in the months and years that follow.
Together, we will explore:
- Understanding grief following miscarriage, stillbirth and neonatal death
- Why pregnancy and infant loss can be a disenfranchised or unrecognised grief
- Grieving the baby and the future that was imagined
- Different grieving styles between parents and partners
- The impact on siblings, grandparents and extended family
- Anniversaries, due dates, birthdays and other significant milestones
- Continuing bonds, remembrance and creating meaning
- What to say — and what not to say — to a bereaved parent
- How workplaces, health professionals, friends and communities can respond with greater compassion
Who is this workshop for?
Bereaved parents and families, friends, community members, health professionals, support workers, volunteers and anyone wanting to better understand pregnancy and infant loss.
