The NALAG Blue Healers Depression,Stress and Anxiety Program is a psyhco-educational program designed to assist those experiencing mild to moderate depression, stress and anxiety and develop strategies for coping.

What is the 1 or 2 Day Blue Healers Program?

1 Day and 2 Day Weekender Programs

The Blue Healers Program can also be offered as a 1 Day Introduction Program or a 2 Day Intensive Weekend Program.

We cover the same sessions as a 6 week course - however we won't have the guest facilitators ie GP and dietician.

There will be no reunion in-person/group reunion sessions but support and friendship groups will be encouraged to be formed and your facilitator will check in on you 1 month post and 2 months post attendance.

About the Program

The Blue Healers Program assists people who are experiencing depression, anxiety and stress by teaching participants coping strategies to enhance wellbeing.

Blue Healers is a group program developed and presented by the NALAG Centre for Loss & Grief Dubbo. The program is presented by trained facilitators and supervised by a psychologist. 

The Blue Healers  Program is offered FREE of charge to suitable participants. A  light supper will be provided. 

Group Education Sessions

Session 1: What is Depression, Anxiety and Stress?
Identifying the symptoms, causes and effects of depression, anxiety and stress on our physical and mental wellbeing.

Session 2: Exercise and Relaxation  
Explore the current research on exercise and depression. Learn helpful techniques for creating a personalised exercise and relaxation regime.

Session 3: Loss, Grief and Depression
Guest facilitator - Loss and Grief Counsellor and Educator will talk to us about loss, grief and bereavement and the impact this can have on depression, anxiety and stress. 

Session 4: Healthy Eating and Sleeping
Guest Facilitator - Dietician - will look at the benefits of healthy eating and dieting for depression. Identify the causes of poor sleep patterns and how these can be improved.

Session 5: Intro to Challenging Your Thinking
Exploring basic Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to challenge our negative thinking and automatic thoughts. 

Session 6: Creating Healthy Self Esteem and Problem Solving 
Identify the origins/effects of unhealthy self esteem on wellbeing and explore strategies for improvement. Practical problem solving techniques for difficult times.

Session 7: Practical CBT
We take another look at the different types of thinking and how we can change our mood by thinking about situations more realistically using practical CBT methods.

Session 8: Medications and Recovery
Antidepressant medication and the use of natural remedies will be explored by a Guest Facilitator - Local General Practitioner. Looking forward - anticipating life stressors, dealing with setbacks, tips for keeping on track to recovery.

6 Week Program

The 6 week program covers various topics, starting with understanding the symptoms, causes, and effects of depression, anxiety, and stress on physical and mental well-being.

Participants learn about the benefits of exercise and relaxation, receive guidance on creating personalized exercise and relaxation regimes, and hear from guest facilitators about the impact of loss, grief, and bereavement.

Other sessions focus on healthy eating and sleeping habits, challenging negative thinking through Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), improving self-esteem, practical problem-solving techniques, and exploring medication and natural remedies for recovery. The reunion sessions provide an opportunity for participants to reconnect, discuss coping strategies, and plan ongoing support networks.
